MATERIAL + CARE
All pieces are designed and crafted in my studio in Berlin-Mitte, with a strong focus on quality and precision. I work exclusively with precious metals, primarily recycled sterling silver as the core material for the collection alongside premium and recycled gold for custom commissions.
I collaborate with partners I’ve come to trust over many years. The base materials come from a refinery in Hamburg, which also provides the electroplating for the collection’s gold vermeil. Additional components such as chains and clasps are mainly sourced from two suppliers in southern Germany. For cast pieces, I work closely with a small local company in Berlin, ensuring direct communication and consistent quality. Engraving and stone setting for custom pieces are done by experienced specialists based in Berlin.
GENERAL CARE
As with all jewellery, general signs of wear will appear over time depending on how the piece is used and stored. Please note that precious metals are relatively soft and will develop scratches with regular handling. It is advisable to remove all jewellery when partaking in physical or labour-intensive activities. For chains, please take care to prevent knotting.
SILVER
Sterling silver naturally oxidises over time when exposed to air and moisture. This surface change can be removed with a polishing cloth or through professional cleaning. For a deeper clean, use mild dish soap diluted in warm water and a soft toothbrush. Rinse thoroughly and pat dry with a soft cloth.
To keep your jewellery looking its best for a long time, store it in a dry place. Keep pieces separate to prevent them rubbing against each other and causing scratches. Avoid direct contact with cosmetics, household chemicals, chlorinated or salt water, and abrasive compounds as these may damage the metal.
GOLD VERMEIL
To offer a more accessible alternative to solid gold, I produce the collection’s pieces in gold vermeil, a premium plating. While solid gold is more durable and ages differently, it is significantly more expensive.
The label’s vermeil jewellery is crafted from recycled sterling silver and finished with an extra thick layer of 18k gold (2.5 microns minimum), applied through electroplating as the final step.
Although markedly more durable than standard gold plating, the gold layer will still wear down over time. To preserve it, store your jewellery in a dry place. Keep pieces separate to prevent them rubbing against each other and causing scratches. Avoid direct contact with cosmetics, household chemicals, chlorinated or salt water, and abrasive compounds as these may damage the gold layer. Prevent bending or reshaping vermeil pieces as distortion can cause the surface to stretch or crack, which leads to faster deterioration.
REPLATING SERVICE
If you’d like to have your piece restored after frequent wear, you’re welcome to send it in for replating. The cost is per item, and the process may take two to four weeks, as I carefully clean each piece before the new layer of gold is applied.
Please get in touch via email and include a photo of your jewellery so we can discuss the next steps and costs.
SOLID GOLD + RECLAIMED GOLD
Most designs from the collection can be made to order in solid 14k or 18k gold in yellow or white. If you’re interested, feel free to get in touch to discuss time frame and pricing. I also work with solid gold for custom designs, including wedding and engagement rings. Pieces can also be made from fair-mined gold upon request.
As part of my commitment to circular production, I offer to reuse gold provided by clients. This might be old family jewellery, coins, or bullion.
STUDIO RECYCLING + ENVIRONMENTAL PRACTICE
Working with precious metals always involves ethical questions – environmental and social. I aim to reduce my studio’s footprint wherever possible. Precious metal that comes off a piece of jewellery in the making process gets collected, all down to the last grain of filing dust, and will find its way back to the refinery or caster. This isn’t unusual, since precious metals are simply too valuable to be thrown away. In fact, around 80–90% of the gold available to professionals in Germany is recycled, and silver is widely recycled as well, though exact figures vary.
